An early start and I'm pleased we did.. Need to get to an ATM to get cash for fuel.
Credit cards not accepted. We head north to the town of Iringa.. Now I understand truck routes.. hundreds maybe 500 today alone.. Driving is hard. The roads are OK, but there are bloody trucks, speed bumps (sleeping policemen) and police road blocks everywhere. Had a few close shaves with the trucks and the law but we make good progress. Rayna doesn't watch the road anymore ...too scary...plays computer games. Lots of road works..I wonder who is paying..the Chinese?
The much lauded Tan-Zam railway line is not favoured by the freight companies as it is
expensive and unreliable.
We stop at Iringa for a drink and then head West to Ruaha.
Mostly dirt road.. get to the park main gate at about 2.00pm.. have to pay park fees.
Entrance US$49.. Vehicle US$41 as we are staying in the park at a lodge a conservancy fee of US$25.. This is each per day..and we are here for 3 days. The new government is trying to get a return... but they could price themselves out of the market..
We get to Ruaha River lodge mid afternoon and relax.
The room is lovely..
Right on the banks of the river ..a prime spot..hippos and crocs.
And Rayna quickly makes friends.
We relax and shower before dinner ..water pressure an issue.
We have a pre dinner drink at the fire.
Good food served by professional staff.
