September 3rd Lilongwe.

George Clarke

Updated: Jan 6, 2020

Rayna arrives today at 12.20. I need some eye bolts and U shackles. Hunt Lilongwe high and low ...nothing available..

Police road stops everywhere but, as in Zambia, a pleasant "Hello how are you" gets a nice chat and a welcome to Malawi. An offer of a shake of the hands is appreciated.. This contact appears to be important. It appears that Malawians welcome tourists openly..

Maybe there has been a campaign to educate the locals.

I get to the airport about 30 kms from town at 12.15 the plane is early.

But it takes Rayna over an hour to get through passport control and customs.

Longer than it took me to enter with the car from Zambia.

Seems I'm missing her..but don't tell her.

Afternoon trip to a book store and then evening dinner at the B& B with a South African

couple.. A pleasant night chatting.

Cluny Lodge is reasonable B&B for 2 US$125. I think this is a liitle pricey ..but they are busy so I guess it's the going rate. Breakfasts are good.
