September 20th Mombo to Moshi Tanzania then to Voi Kenya

Updated: Jan 4, 2020

An early start today.. hoping to get to Voi a town between Tsavo East and Tsavo West

National Parks in Kenya.. Uneventful run to Moshi. Stopped for breakfast in a small village..food was great.

A great breakfast..Omlette in chipata with excellent Kenyan coffee

They do load the vans up a bit this one had 13 on board including the driver.

The rope was to tie the tail gate down.

As mentioned earlier distances are not a big thing in Africa.. I asked a policeman how far away Same was ..he confidently told me it was 87 kms away.. but in actual fact it was 156kms. The surveyors on these roads though knew about distances to the decimal point.

This is what I like: exact distances!

The trucks and buses often have messages ..sometimes of a religious nature

God over everything

Well we hope so!

Every town or village has bumps to slow down the traffic. The bigger the town, the more bumps. One had seven! These are so big you slow down to 10-15 kph.

Some are not marked and in certain light conditions hard to see.

This hump is marked .. and they are there because no one followed the speed signs, like me.

We are now getting in to northern Tanzania and the Masai are becoming more evident and they stick out.

Tall and thin, with the telling wrap around and a fighting stick

Easy to pick the masai.

I stopped in Moshi to get fuel and to change money, these two kids were sitting on the ground.. I said hello and they sheepishly looked away. This old lady saw the encounter and came up and told them that when a old person greets them they must stand up and politely greet him back.Nice to see someone has manners.

From Moshi to the border.. and through within 75 minutes.. then an hours drive through Tsavo West National park (never saw a thing) to Voi. Tried to find an ATM that worked. 3rd time lucky and then a sim card.. Asked a woman if she could tell me where a telecom company was ..she took me to Safari but they would not sell me sim as I was not a local with a Kenyan ID. I asked the woman if I could use her ID and she agreed ..problem solved! Then to the hotel. Dinner and some sleep.
