There is a short cut from the lodge to Selous that we weren't advised about, so it was 7 gruelling hours of driving.. the last couple in the park were ok.
Selous game reserve is the largest in Tanzania and the largest in Africa.. bigger than Kruger National Park, almost 3 time the size. Some say the largest in the world. The game reserve has hunting in the south but the new President is not issuing any new licenses and the reserve is to get National Park status..where no hunting is allowed.
A hydroelectric dam is being built on the Rifuji River which flows through the reserve..
As African countries expand the demand for electricity outstrips supply.. I'm all for it.
It will be a disruption for about 5 years and then back to near normal.
But with the dam being built , new roads, new power lines and a lot of motor vehicles
we see very little game.
Rufiji river camp is a big place about 15 tents.. getting a bit old.
Have a swim and a snake is seen by the camp manager at the pool - Nothing dangerous.
Nice dinner - good food.
