Today the trip really starts..We leave Cape Town a little late heading for Cape Aghulas.
First to Franschoek and Stellenbosch.
Franschoek is a beautiful town about an hours drive from Cape Town. This is where the Huegenots settled after their arrival in the Cape. A great grape growing and fruit growing area. Cecil John Rhodes had a large fruit estate here. These still exist
and jams from Rhodes' original farms can be bought in South African supermarkets.

Then to Stellenbosch ..South Africa's second city. Established by Simon van der Stell.
Now we head south east to Cape Agulhas - Africa's most southerly point. A bit of a drive
but a symbolic starting point to the trip. Agulhas is the Portuguese word for needle - a reminder that it was the Portuguese who first sailed these waters: Bartolomeu Diaz in1488 and Vasco da Gama in the 1490's trying to find a sea route to the East. Brave men.. in tiny ships .. Many lost at sea.

L'Agulhas was a surprise to me.A popular holiday town and lots of tourists. Of course a lighthouse

Everyone in Africa lives to the north of here.
From here we head to Swellendam - Staying at a nice hotel Schoone Ordt.. Great dinner and breakfast
Thanks for the updates have a safe trip
