July 23rd -25th Cape Town

Cape Town, the mother city.. South Africa has 3 capital cities..

Why three? Could be historic.. Cape Town of course, the first City but why

Bloemfontein? and Pretoria?

My theory is .. Cape Town, the first City understandable.. where parliament sits

Bloemfontein, the Judicial capital ..the first Boer republic

Pretoria, well the second Boer republic..had to get a guernsey..

so this became the Administrative capital.. what a compromise.

Cape Town in my opinion the most beautiful city in the world.

With Table Mountain watching over us..the oceans both sides

what a sight! A drive on the Atlantic side Hout Bay, Camps Bay, Clifton, Sea Point ..it's all Wow,Wow,Wow.

Great food and wine and sights..It has it all.

But there is crime ..a lot of poor people...hungry..and a quick mobile phone robbery would give the robber 300 rand..ZAR A$30 a lot of money.. a feed is ZAR 30 so you have to be careful.

In Mitchell Plains (a coloured area) two weeks ago, the army was deployed to control gangster/gang violence. In 3-4 suburbs each weekend 50+ people are killed .. Whew! or as the South Africans would say "Eish". With the army there the murder rate dropped to 20+ per weekend..

As a tourist this is not part of your equation.. Nice hotels at the Water Front or nearby in Green Point and Sea Point there is plenty of security, great restaurants and wine ....

What a city.. so, so beautiful when the weather is good.

My first 2 days there it pissed down. Table Mountain had 3 table cloths on ..the clouds were down... miserable. A Mediterranean climate and I'm here in the middle of the rainy season. I'm busy enough. I opened my sunshade awning in the wind - it broke and I had to get a new one.. Also bought myself an Eperb..

This time last year Cape town had a water shortage.. really serious.. "Climate Change" everyone cried. Tourists in 5 star hotels were asked to have 3-5 minute showers.. Well this year the climate changed again..

At the end of July, with 6 weeks of the rainy season to go, the dams are 70% full.

And you can still blame climate change. This is such a good band wagon.

Zoe arrives today from Washington D.C.
