The Karoo seemed to go for ever...Stopped for breakfast and fuel in Beaufort West . In the middle of the Karoo. The names of the towns have changed from the Afrikaans names in the Orange Free State ( the first Boer republic)..Bloemfontein, Welkom and Kroonstad to English names where the Brits had influence in the Cape Colony. Beaufort West, Wellington and Montague. The people have changed also from the Sotho,

A Coloured lady petrol attendant in Beaufort West little Karoo

Zulu and some Xhosa in the Free State to Cape Coloured predominantly and Xhosa in the Cape. Had to brush up my Afrikaans at some stops.



Brahmin bulls on there way to their next love affair

Every town has a hero - Beaufort West's hero is Dr. Chris Barnard - born and went to school here. Yes, famous heart transplant surgeon from the little Karoo.
