August 6th Popa Falls to Maun.

Updated: Jan 4, 2020

This is a rush day.. Zoe has a 2.30 plane to catch - Maun to Jo'burg - and the road from Shakawe south is bad. We get to the park gate at 6.05am ..its not open.. Should open at 0600 but the gate keeper slept in ..The park warden coming to work at 0700 wakes the gate keeper. We're now an hour late. Fortunately very quick exit and entry formalities and we're rushing. The pot holes are big enough to hide an elephant.. dodging them is physically and mentally exhausting... But we're making good time.

Until we get pulled over by the police for speeding - 115k in an 80k zone - 1200 Pula fine

A$150.. ..sweet talk it was recorded as 97 kph so the fine dropped to 600 Pula.

We're on our way again.

The Botswana currency is Pula... meaning rain. A good name in this very dry land.

Get to Maun in good time and Zoe checks in.

We go and have lunch and I say good bye to her, and go off to get a hair cut and do some shopping.

At about 3pm I get a phone call from Rayna.. pick up Zoe at the airport she's missed the plane.

The boarding card said boarding 2.00pm but Air Botswana decided to leave at 1.30pm.

Anyway, I'm in Maun for the night so no real damage done.

This afternoon take the vehicle to a 4X4 place as there is a fuel leak near the 2nd tank..

The mechanic, a Zimbabwean, finds one of the hose clamps loose..50 minutes later and A$28 we're on our way.

Next day a bit more shopping and I drop Zoe at the airport.
