August 3rd Etosha

George Clarke

Updated: Jan 6, 2020

We entered the park at 8.00am through the east gate. Paid the (very reasonable) fees of A$8 per person and A$10 for the vehicle. The Etosha Salt pan can be fabulous for game viewing. Rayna and I have had wonderful sightings at water holes, but when I took a group, it was a little disappointing.

Zoe and I stopped at the first water hole.

A really nice scene

Then on to the dusty roads of Etosha... but what's this?

A really lovely pussy cat

Only 300 metres from the waterhole.

She did get closer..about 2 car lengths from us

We drove on for some time... from water hole to water hole. Nothing much to see, so we stopped at Halali camp for an ice cream lunch. The shop had no power, so everything sold had to be written down in long hand, with the various prices added, and at lunch time the shop was full... whew! We had eaten the ice creams before we had paid for them! We had a look at Halali water hole and saw a lion about 120 metres away, but that was it. Then we headed back to the resort... slowly.

And that's when the fun began!

White elephants.

After a wash in one of the water holes the elephant covers itself with sand..a sunscreen

A beauty

Even the guinea fowl are white

Great tusks on this fellow

Etosha is dry ..how the animals survive is a big question

A giraffe walks into a bar and says "the high balls are on me"

A honey badger hunting for lunch

more Zebra

Remarkably healthy Impala

So that was Etosha.
