August 31st South Luangwa

Updated: Jan 6, 2020

South Luangwa is famous for its Leopard.. Didn't see any yesterday ..so here is hoping.

On entering the park I notice a safari vehicle in a hurry.. this is a bush sign..

And so I follow and sure enough:

So beautiful..such lovely colours..only 4 vehicles

There is something here that has got her interest..

There is something special about the cats.

But Sth. Luangwa has a lot to offer.

These two fellows are alert ..something is going on!

Spotted Hyena.. there was a leopard close by but moved quickly.

So that's 2 leopard in the morning drive.

This baboon resting on a lodge sign post

The afternoon drive starts off quietly..

Tracking animals is an art. Must check the foot prints, the sounds, the signals the other animals and birds are giving, the wind direction and the smell. The Leopards and Hyena this morning had been found by professional guides. My afternoon drive is a highlight for me.

Kudu bull with a baboon for company

The mighty Luangwa..with ever present hippos

But really an average game drive.. Always looking ..can't track the foot prints ,can't read the calls so it's all by sight..and I see this Waterbuck

It's not looking at me!

This is what it is looking at

this leopard is carrying a kill!

The leopard has spent most of its energy catching the small antelope and has to rest every now and then

And we move again

Eventually it found a fallen tree, placed the animal as high up as it could and went down to the ground to rest..

And me ..I drove around the park telling every guide I could find, about MY leopard and where they could see it..

What a day ..3 leopard, spotted Hyena and new beginner tracker.
