August 24th Livingstone to Kafue National Park.

George Clarke

Updated: Jul 13, 2020

A long day ahead.. Leave early about 7.30 and get to the southern gate of Kafue at 10.30

The dirt road was recently upgraded ..In the park I take the scenic route through the game areas.

There have been fires here so not much to see ..but I did at a distance see a herd of 15 Eland.

Villagers selling bags of charcoal.. poor as can be..A bag of charcoal for US$2

There is a man made lake in Kafue, as I head around the southern end, the road deteriorates. I pass, with difficulty, two large trucks carrying fencing .. I'm told later that it is a game catching unit.. Not sure what it's about but will find out.

The road has many dips to handle the raining season

The dips at 60kph are a big hit

As about 80% are sign posted one forgets that 20 % aren't and my vehicle took some big hits.

Road blocked by a fallen branch. Finally a chance to use my winch

Easy work

Road open

I get to the camp site at about 4 ..I'm the only person here.Set up camp in a beautiful spot.

On the banks of a beautiful river, the Kafue
